Photo Printer:Canon PIXMA Pro9500
.
The famous New York photographer, Michel Tcherevkoff chose the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 to aide him with making of one his photography books. Most people would assume that it must be good when the experts are using it. Unfortunately, people don’t always agree with the experts.
Whether a Canon PIXMA Pro9500 owner would be able to say goodbye forever to online and local photo developing places is an arguable question. It is important to remember that although there are more than a few photographers who have serious qualms with the Canon PIXMA Pro9500, the majority of users believe it is well worth the price.
Going Green with the Canon PIXMA Pro9500
The Eco-friendly crowd will love the fact that Canon PIXMA Pro9500 is Energy Star qualified. The Energy Star qualification means that the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 uses half as much energy as many of its competitors but costs the same amount as the electricity-guzzling rivals.
The Lovers
Lovers of the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 exclaimed with delight that the images they saw on their monitors were the exact same sharp, rich, amazing images the printer produced.
The Haters
Several Canon PIXMA Pro9500 owners felt like they had gotten ripped off by spending nearly a thousand dollars on the inkjet printer. The main complaint was the printers inability to print on glossy paper without severely diminishing the overall quality of the image. The complaint against Canon and its shortcomings didn’t end with glossy paper. Haters of the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 also felt matte prints were dull with low-contrast. The final con of the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 is the speed at which it produces prints. Even the lovers of the printer admitted that it takes quite a while to see your image come to life.
The Paper
There were two papers recommended by photographers that seem to be the perfect match for the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 printer. The first paper is Canon Fine Art Museum Etching. Photographers who used the paper with the Pixma Pro 9500 discovered their prints have amazing depth. The second paper is Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl Paper.
Time is Money
The photo-hobbyist or enthusiast would feel absolutely spoiled when using the Canon PIXMA Pro9500, however the speed of the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 might irritate the workaholic professional photographer who understands that in business, time is money. Photographs that measured 8-by-10 inches take roughly 5-6 minutes to print! And a long grueling fifteen minutes went by before a 12-by-18 inch image finally appeared.
The designers of the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 attempted to give back some of the wasted time to photographers by placing all ten individual ink tanks in the print heads to eliminate the need to swap ink tanks. Despite their efforts, photographers still find themselves playing catch-up when it comes to the efficiency of other models.
The Overall
If there is anything that would turn a potential buyer away from the Canon, it would be the gloss differential problems that seems to be a steady and documented complaint. If the designers could have tackled this issue, the Canon PIXMA Pro9500 would be a much better splurge.
The Price
The Canon PIXMA Pro9500 is around $800 dollars. Snagging one for $750 is feasible if there are no shipping costs attached to the price. The print cartridges cost about $15 a piece and are small in comparison to the printer’s size.
The Canon PIXMA Pro9500 weighs in at 33.9 lbs and will take over almost the entire surface of a small desk or table. Having hardly any desk space is a small price to pay for true-to-life colors on crisp prints created in the comfort of your own home.
